Upgrade or change your plan

You can move between plans at any time and choose whether to be billed monthly or yearly. How the change applies depends on whether you’re upgrading or downgrading. Billing changes are made under Settings → Billing.

Every paid plan can be billed on one of two intervals:

  • Monthly — you pay each month.
  • Yearly — you pay once for the year, at a discount compared with paying monthly.

On Settings → Billing, the available plans have a billing cycle toggle (Monthly / Yearly). Switch it to see each plan’s price for that interval before you choose. Switching between Monthly and Yearly for the same plan is treated as a plan change — use the Switch to Yearly / Switch to Monthly button on the plan.

  1. Sign in to Acme as the organization owner.
  2. Go to Settings → Billing.
  3. Under the available plans, set the billing cycle (Monthly or Yearly).
  4. Find the plan you want and select its button — Subscribe, Upgrade, Downgrade, or Switch Plan, depending on your current plan.

If you don’t have a paid subscription yet

Section titled “If you don’t have a paid subscription yet”

If you’re on the Free plan, choosing a paid plan opens a secure checkout (handled by our payment provider, Paddle) where you enter your payment details. After checkout completes, you’re returned to Acme and your new subscription is active right away.

When you already have a paid plan and a payment method on file, the change is applied directly — you usually won’t go through checkout again.

The timing depends on the direction of the change:

  • Upgrades take effect immediately. You move to the higher plan right away and gain its limits at once. Your billing is adjusted accordingly by the payment provider.
  • Downgrades are scheduled for the end of your current billing period. You keep your current plan and its limits until then, and the lower plan starts at your next renewal. Until it takes effect, your subscription shows a Downgrade Scheduled notice with the date.

A downgrade can only go through if your current usage fits inside the lower plan’s limits. Acme blocks the downgrade if:

  • you have more workspaces than the target plan allows, or
  • you have more team members than the target plan includes.

If you hit this, reduce your usage first, then try the downgrade again:

See Plans and limits for each plan’s limits.

If you’re on a free trial and change plans, the change applies immediately and your trial continues on the new plan — you’re not charged until the trial ends. Switching plans during a trial does not restart it.

Once a change goes through, your subscription card under Settings → Billing updates to show the new plan, interval, and included features. For an upgrade, a confirmation appears summarizing what you now have access to. For a scheduled downgrade, the card shows the scheduled plan and the date it takes effect.
